The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the new Young Eye Surgeons (YES) International Service (YIS) Grant.
The purpose of this grant is to inspire young eye surgeons to become involved with global eyecare on a long-term basis. Grantees will use the award to volunteer with local community eyecare programs, teaching institutions, and health care systems outside the United States. Grantees will work with the ASCRS Foundation and its international partners (HCP, ORBIS, SEVA, and others) to develop a customized international volunteer plan.
ASCRS membership is well-known for their drive to help alleviate the global eyecare crisis. This grant provides the opportunity for young eye surgeons to help make a difference in communities around the world.
The grant application is open to ASCRS members who are third year residents or fellows, or who are in their first five years of practice. This ASCRS Foundation grant will cover two-four weeks of travel expenses, room and board, and administrative costs of the international trip. Grantees will be required to attend the 2020 and 2021 ASCRS Annual Meetings, and will receive complementary registration, as long as they remain ASCRS members in good standing. Also, as part of their status as YIS Grant awardees, they will be encouraged to share their success stories to encourage volunteerism in the larger ophthalmic community.
Click here to apply. The application period opens July 1st, 2019. If you have questions about the grant process or whether you would qualify, please email ASCRS Foundation Coordinator, Julia Donaldson, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
